Thank you Sponsors and Players!

The 2020 Golf Tournament was the BEST Putnam City Schools Foundation has had in more than 15 years! We are so grateful to our players and sponsors for joining us at The Greens for a fun time on a beautiful day last month. We raised over $35,000 for programs to enhance and enrich education for children in Putnam City Schools! Thanks especially to our committee lead Pat Ivey and his entire team for their dedication to helping our kids.

Congratulations to the First Place Team, Midlands Management Corp, pictured below. From left: DiAnne Bryant, PC Foundation Chairwoman; representing Midlands are  Dennis Ottis, Todd Dayton,  Mike Kirk, and Jerry Krittenbrink.

The Jones family has a long history in northwest Oklahoma City. In the early 70s Lonnie Jones (PC High, class of 1980) and his family moved down the street from Rollingwood Elementary. They've been there ever since!

Lonnie (pictured below, then and now) began working in the automotive industry for OTASCO in 1978. Starting as a stock boy at OTASCO, he was offered the opportunity to become an auto technician when he turned 18. Lonnie went to work for Wade's Auto, where he worked his way up to manager in 1997.

Today, Lonnie and his wife Sandy (also PC High, class of 1980), own Lonnie's Auto Service Center located at 50th and Vermont—just a stone's throw from their alma mater. The shop is managed by their son Mike (PC High, class of 2006).

One of Mike's favorite memories of Putnam City High School is serving as Editor of the Pirate Log during his senior year. He helped rebuild the newsroom after longtime Journalism teacher, Sam Effinger, retired and left the paper in Mike's hands.

Our thanks to the Jones family for taking a moment to share their alumni story with our readers. We'd love to share your story, too! Please visit our website to  https://pcf4kids.org/alumni/ to learn more.

Be Santa—Especially This Year

Once again, we have the opportunity to match generous people with children in our district who won't get Christmas gifts without help. We expect to have even more requests from our Putnam City families this year, and need as many people to sign up now to be adopters, bike purchasers, or late shoppers. Please visit www.pcf4kids.org/programs/careshare and register your family, office team, or Sunday school class to help.

Sam Madewell—First Year Go-Getter!

The Putnam City Foundation awarded a YES! Grant to the Technology Engineering (S.T.E.M.) classroom at Kenneth Cooper Middle School. The YES! Grant will allow students to design prototypes of their computer-aided design CO2 dragsters before making a final prototype out of wood.

" The YES! Grant was an amazing blesssing for my classroom, and I am truly honored to accept this grant on behalf of my students; even as a first year teacher in the district! Being able to fully design, test, and explore S.T.E.M. projects such as this in the classroom, will truly give my students something to look forward to when they finally get back into the building. Thank you Putnam City Foundation!" Sam Madewell.

During the 2019-20 school year, 49 YES! Grants totaling $37,359 were awarded and impacted 13,425 students.

PC Employees: Win Big—Find a Friend!

Do you like money? Even if it comes in gift card form? Well, we have a deal for you! Join Friends of the Foundation at any giving level, and be entered to win a $50 Visa gift card! Already a friend? Refer someone or increase your donation and be entered into the contest for a second $50 Visa gift card. Can't beat that! The contest ends November 19th, so don't delay! Sign up today by downloading an enrollment form and submitting it to our office.

The pandemic has been hard on so many aspects of school, and Friends of the Foundation recruitment is no exception. Without in-person new hire or staff meetings, we've had little opportunity to fill in the gaps left from the retirements and resignations of spring. We need our Friends now, more than ever.

CAST Moves Forward

The Community and Schools Together program met virtually with our Steering Committee and shared some of the needs from our schools in the Putnam City High School footprint. We are grateful to have these people help us source the best services and in-kind options available to make our schools run more smoothly. If you know a small business, nonprofit, or religious group who wants to help their local school, please contact Jennifer at [email protected] to be added to our resource list.
