Why do we need a Foundation?

While Putnam City Schools does offer a world-class education to our students, there are several opportunities for supporting our children and teachers, and the Foundation provides an easy way to do just that.

Why should I give to the Foundation?

If you care about public education, you’re a parent or alumni of Putnam City, or live in the district, the Putnam City Schools Foundation provides a way for you to do your part to keep this district strong. Whether you want to give in honor of a favorite teacher, or to support a favorite program, the Putnam City Schools Foundation makes it simple.

Spend some time learning about our innovative programs, the creative ideas our teachers bring us, and the community support initiatives we lead, and you’ll see several reasons to support this mission.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes! We are classified as a 501(c)3 charitable organization by the IRS. You will receive written confirmation of any donation you make, including gifts of property, securities, or valuables.

Does Putnam City Schools’ administration have anything to do with the Foundation?

Yes it does. While the Foundation is a separate 501(c)3 entity, the school board president, the district superintendent, and the chief communications officer all are ex-officio members of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

The Foundation offices are inside the Putnam City administration building so that regular communication takes place on the district’s needs. We look to those who understand education best - the professional teachers - for leadership. We look to our community to help the Foundation develop and direct resources to meet our shared educational goals.

Where does the money go?

Funds raised by the Foundation are returned to the teachers, staff, and students in Putnam City for the programs you read about on this website.

Dollars come to the Foundation either restricted or unrestricted. The restricted dollars support programs designated by the donor. The unrestricted contributions are allocated by the Foundation to those areas of greatest need. From 1987 to present, the Foundation disbursed more than $3 million to endeavors throughout the district.

How much money does the Foundation have to spend?

Our total assets near $1 million, much of which is restricted through endowment or scholarship funds. Our endowment is held at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. Our investment accounts are held at BancTrust, and benefit from a conservative investment plan overseen by our internal Finance Committee.

How do I know that my online donation is secure?

Our Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software is the industry standard in encrypting all of your information, including credit card number, name and address.

What if I still prefer to donate with a check?

We welcome any method of payment that allows you to help our children, cash and checks included.
