PC FOUNDATION LOOKS FOR INNOVATIVE WAYS TO CONTINUE ENRICHING EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS
The Putnam City Schools Foundation is weathering the COVID-19 crisis as well as can be expected.
“We only exist to serve our students and teachers, so when they aren’t around, it becomes more of a challenge to fulfill our mission,” President Jennifer Seal mused.
But that won’t stop the staff from finding creative ways to support students and teachers as they need. The Foundation is soliciting ideas from their teachers for ways parents can educate their children at home.
“The hope is that teachers will offer links to their favorite online resources, make short videos to share with parents on ways they can structure their child’s time, or even just record themselves reading books,” Seal said.
Providing these options not only helps the families, it helps the teachers as well.
"Gosh I miss my students so much. I am overcome with a wave of sadness and tears when I think about not getting to teach them or say goodbye," said Katie Kinder, an English teacher at Cooper Middle School.
The PC Foundation will also be using its email and social media platforms to pass on important information from the district and State Department of Education about the COVID-19 response, including provision of emergency services for families.
“One thing many people might not realize is that a large portion of the children in our district get two meals a day from school. Our district has worked with Sodexo to offer food pick-up times at nearly every school site,” Seal mentioned.
The Putnam City School District’s website www.putnamcityschools.org and social media platforms have helpful information about COVID-19, so parents are encouraged to follow the district for the latest news.
