FOUNDATION TO HONOR LIFESAVING DOCTOR

Oklahoma City, OK – Oct. 28, 2019 — The Putnam City Schools Foundation is thrilled to announce that Dr. Greg Walton is the 2020 Wall of Fame inductee.

“I am so flattered and honored to be on the Wall of Fame,” Dr. Walton responded. “I have so many great memories from Putnam City High School, not the least of which was winning the state football championship in overtime against Putnam City West.”

Dr. Walton graduated from Putnam City High School in 1980 before attending Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma medical school. He is co-owner of the WeightWise Bariatric Program in Edmond, Oklahoma which has helped over 7,500 people transform their lives and find lifetime health.

Dr. Walton’s own life took a dramatic turn during the summer of his junior year in college when he suffered a devastating injury from an oil field explosion in which two people died. He had only a three percent chance of survival, being burned over 75 percent of his body. He required months of hospitalization, 20 surgeries and intense physical therapy, but he was determined. Within three years of his accident, he had completed his undergraduate degree and started medical school.

Wanting to help people in a fundamental way beyond their surgical experience, Walton studied in the emerging bariatric field and started a practice in Enid, Oklahoma before moving to Oklahoma City to start WeightWise with his partner Dr. Toby Broussard.

Bariatric surgery reduces the amount of food a person can physically eat, leading to weight loss. His experiences shaped his ability to be truly empathetic with patients, and because of the nature of this specialized surgery, Walton deeply appreciated the effect on the whole person.

Today Dr. Walton serves on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation and has memberships in several respected professional organizations.
