Foundation Responds to Call for Safety Needs of PC Teachers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Oklahoma City, OK – July 23, 2020 — The Putnam City Schools Foundation is raising funds to provide a Safety Kit for each staff person in the Putnam City School District. Each person will receive a reusable mask and some hand sanitizer, along with a face shield provided by the District.

“This is a big project, but it is vital to our children’s education that teachers feel protected as they return to class,” Foundation President Jennifer Seal mentioned.

The Foundation plans to raise $30,000 for this project.

“We are so grateful for the early donations we’ve already received for this worthy endeavor. Our donors are very generous, and understand the importance of having these materials on hand as school starts,” Seal said.

It was difficult to determine what items would be best for the staff. Consultation with a few teachers revealed that, while disposable gloves would be good, teachers would exhaust the donated supply within a week. Early childhood teachers described using a new pair of gloves each time a child needed help with a button on her shirt or touches a book.

“That just wasn’t the best use of our donor dollars. We want to be able to provide as much as we can for our staff so they are protected as best as possible,” said Seal.

The Foundation started the campaign for safety kits after a request from the school district.

“We greatly appreciate the PCS Foundation’s campaign to purchase essentials for our Teacher Safety Kits. Providing teachers with masks and shields creates an environment that promotes health and safety. The Foundation’s fundraising campaign is a way to directly support our teachers with essential safety items,” said Putnam City Superintendent Dr. Fred Rhodes.

Anyone interested in donating to this effort can visit the Foundation’s website at www.pcf4kids.org and click on DONATE.
