VOTE YES TUESDAY! 2020 BOND
I hope you are already aware that the Putnam City School District has a bond vote this Tuesday, Feb 11th. You vote at your local polling place from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., but you could early vote Thursday and Friday at the OK County Election Board located at 4201 N. Lincoln Blvd.
Why should you vote yes?
- The bond will increase your property value because we will have even better schools.
- It will not raise your property taxes much at all (maybe $24 for a $100,000 home at most)
- It helps our children! Go to https://www.putnamcityschools.org/about-us/bond-information/2020-bond and learn how EVERY SINGLE BUILDING will benefit from the passage of this bond.
- So many great things will come out of this bond, including upgrades to security, new textbooks and technology. There are many maintenance items that are paid for with bond funds, like air conditioning and roof repair.
- The bond is our savings account for keeping our buildings looking and functioning great.
- You own a home and have to make periodic improvements on it — new water heater, new flooring, etc. The bond is just like that. We have to have a fund for our building upkeep — which is really your building upkeep, because the patrons of Putnam City own the buildings in the Putnam City School District.
You say, “I don’t even have kids in Putnam City Schools!”
Hopefully that isn’t really your sentiment. Remember a few months back when we discussed civics? Well, doing something that is good for the general population is citizenship at its finest. You may not benefit immediately, but you do benefit directly.
How you ask? Because better schools mean a healthier, more desirable neighborhood. And a healthier, more desirable neighborhood means increased property values. That’s a good thing, right?
You say, “I’m frustrated with how the district handled X issue.”
Well, I am sorry to hear that, but I would still submit this isn’t a reason to vote no. The issue is important I am sure, but your no vote won’t fix it. In fact, it punishes students you don’t even know for decades to come if this bond doesn’t pass.
You say, “I am not happy about X plan in the proposed bond.”
The district cannot please all stakeholders at all times. I am asking you to vote for the greater good, knowing that as the years go by and bond funds are released, there will be changes to plans due to unforeseen circumstances, so please don’t hold the entire district hostage for something that may change in the next few years.
So — put it on your calendar RIGHT NOW to vote on Tuesday, Feb 11th. We have to have a pass rate of 60% of those who vote in order to pass this bond. So PLEASE go vote YES!
