Matching for Moms (and kiddos, and Dads too)

One of my favorite games growing up was Memory. Do you remember that one — you turn all the cards down and then get to pick up two, trying to get a match? It’s a pretty simple game, but for some reason it was always so exciting when you could remember where that other banana was that your friend just turned over, and then make that banana match!

Well the Putnam City Schools Foundation has been gifted with a matching challenge that will bring that kind of excitement, and even more, but we need your help to make this banana match. One of our longtime Putnam City families has pledged a matching gift of up to $3,000 for this year’s Giving Tuesday campaign benefitting Early Birds.

As many of you know, Early Birds is a parent training program that teaches parents how to be their child’s first teacher. The goal is to get parents to read, sing, play with, and talk to their children daily. We have been able to keep this program going despite cuts from the state because our donors believe in it. If you as a parent take the Early Birds class, your child will score 30% higher than her peers on the kindergarten benchmark in literacy. The even better news is that new Putnam City research shows those gains hold through to third grade!

We are asking that people make a gift of $55 which is the cost of the Parent Literacy Kit. This kit provides parents with educational toys, a book, and a curriculum binder that helps them understand their child’s development through the years.

This year Giving Tuesday is November 28th, but you can start making your gifts today at our website so we can meet that match. If you do give, please post your own #unselfie and tell the world why you support Early Birds, and the Putnam City Schools Foundation.

Now get out there and help us match those bananas!
